LYNCHPIN: the Ocean-specific project of the Bookend Trust
Offering Marine Science scholarships:
Supporting ocean research
Telling the story
Encouraging the arts/marine science dialogue
The LYNCHPIN project of the Bookend Trust was developed to support research into the significance of the oceans to life on the planet, with a strong emphasis on bringing this story to the wider community in new ways. Lynchpin is committed to encouraging arts/ocean science collaborations and interdisciplinary dialogue at a wider level to promote critical, and not generally understood, issues of ocean science.
The ocean-specific LYNCHPIN SCHOLARSHIP available through Bookend is open to a postgraduate student working in marine science with a focus on particular areas:
- significance of the Southern Oceans to planetary systems;
- the crucial role of marine plant plankton in supporting planetary metabolism;
- climate change research, particularly ocean acidification;
- the role of the physics and chemistry of oceans on their ecology;
- the crucial importance of seaweeds in supporting coastal reef systems.
